OssKin was created in 2016 to revolutionize the orthotics market, with the aim of offering a lighter and personalized orthosis to meet the needs of each patient through its 3D printing innovation.

Unlike traditional orthoses, OssKin’s orthoses are the only ones that reproduce the 3D kinematics of the knee (internal rotation, external rotation, abduction, adduction, anterior-posterior movement, and vertical movement). The Asymmotion technology developed by OssKin allows for a tridimensional motion tracking. Evoke is the only orthosis that precisely captures all planes of knee movement, which prevents compensations from other joints such as the ankle or hip. Because Evoke does not create any imbalances in the kinematic chain, this allows for reduced stress on the knee while walking. Evoke’s precise adherence to the exact movement of the knee joint also prevents orthosis migration and ensures unparalleled patient comfort.

OssKin uses its own software to allow clinicians to scan the knees of patients with arthritis and take all necessary measurements for the proper customization of the orthosis. This allows OssKin to model the orthosis that will best suit each patient thanks to ultra-precise adjustments based on their personal biomechanics. This adjustment ensures an optimal fit and provides pain relief for the patient. After the modeling portion, the final step of manufacturing an Evoke unloader knee brace is the 3D printing. OssKin uses selective laser sintering 3D printing to best match each knee’s biomechanics and make specific corrections. Polyamide powder is used for creating the orthoses. Thanks to its resilience and resistance to abrasion, this produces a product with optimal rigidity where it is needed.

Beyond the quality of the materials offered and the desire to personalize orthoses for each patient, the use of 3D printing allows for a lightweight orthosis that is easy to wear and facilitates daily use. If orthoses are too bulky and heavy, patients are more likely to remove them to avoid hindering daily activities. The ultra-lightweight materials of the Evoke orthosis make it 50% lighter than other knee orthoses on the market. Its ultra-thin 5mm frame allows for it to be worn with discretion under pants or dresses. With its lightness and discretion, patients can easily wear their orthosis daily and continue performing activities such as walking, playing golf, tennis, and more. 

Technology and clinically proven

The OssKin orthosis has undergone several clinical studies to illustrate its effectiveness and demonstrate its cutting-edge innovation. A study by the Orthopedic Research Centers and University Engineering Research found three important results in the daily use of Evoke knee brace for patients: 

  • Reduction of femur medialization allowing for improved knee mobility. 
  • A hinge that closely follows the 3D movement of the knee during flexion and extension. 
  • Offloading of a specific compartment affected by arthritis. 

This Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index study also noted positive functional results during the Evoke orthosis protocol. Patients experienced greater mobility, effective offloading of the knee joint, and an increase in their activity level.
